Read through the chapter on Post Modernism from the OCR Handbook attached
- What does Post Modernism suggest about the value of high art (eg opera) and popular culture (eg TV)
that anything can reach an audience - What does Post Modernism suggest about the ideas of truth or reality - how is this linked the the Media?
Media is in the middle of truth and reality, where it merges the two. - Who were the 2 big thinkers and what concept do their theories share?
Jean Francois Lyotard and Jean Baudrillard. that history repeats, or comes to an end where it then repeats. - Give an example of 3 'Grand-narratives' or 'Meta-narratives' (2 will need you be your own not listed in the chapter)

intertextuality - Why is Grand Theft Auto Post-modern?
It consumes the player into the game, and the person adapts themself to the character. It has hyper real situations in, and simulacrum. It has lots of intertextual references in, linking it to other forms of media. - Why is the Cadburys Gorilla ad Post-modern?
Because they have advertised the chocolate using a monkey playing drums to a old popular song of that time, which has no meaning to the actual chocolate, or cadbury brand. - What does FLOW and IMMERSION mean?
Immersion means that a video player can get mentally involved in a game putting their emotions in it and imagination.
TASK TWO
For this part i have chosen to discuss a stream of youtube videos about "Simon the Cat"
These videos are a drawn animation about a cat and his owner. Already, this is a form of post modernism as we many would see this animation of a cat as an actual cat. This is simulacrum. And as well as this, the video being on youtube reaches an audience which makes it just as accessible as professional standard videos, like Beyonce music videos and the series Misfits. This fits in with the post modern theory that all media is at the same level, and it is all based on taste.
The video contains levels of hyper-reality when the cat gets out the baseball bat and hits its owner to wake him up, however it does have represent an innitation of real life behaviour, for example - the man not wanting to get out of bed, and the cats kneeding of the duvet. They have also put over a sound which is simular to a cat. It is NOT an actual sound of a cat, but a representation of what we think cats sound like.
Because of this access to the web 2.0 and youtube, the author and artist of the Simon the Cat videos has become a youtube phenomenom and has many followers. The most popular video having 40,331,961 hits. MORE than ALL of Cheryl Coles music videos besides one. -Which shows that it depends what you call art. As more people would rather watch an animation of a cat, than cheryl cole.
